The 19th Egyptian National Theatre Festival continues its official competition on Tuesday with four productions taking place across Cairo as the festival heads into another evening of performances running through 11 August.
The programme begins at 7:00 p.m. with "Adagio... The Last Melody" at Al-Ghad Theatre. Directed by El-Saeed Mansi and adapted from Ibrahim Abdel Meguid's novel, the production follows businessman Samer and his wife Reem, a pianist diagnosed with terminal cancer after a medical error.
As the couple retreats to a villa in Alexandria to spend her final days together, the play explores love, loss and the emotional weight of farewell.
Also at 7:00 p.m., Miami Theatre will stage "The Caucasian Chalk Circle Story", director Omar Raafat's contemporary Egyptian adaptation of Bertolt Brecht's classic play.
Blending comedy and drama, the production follows the servant Grusha as she risks everything to raise an abandoned child before facing a courtroom battle that raises timeless questions about justice, sacrifice and humanity.
The 9:00 p.m. programme features "Gharam fi El-Karnak" at Al-Ballon Theatre, directed by Tamer Abdel Monem.
Inspired by the classic Egyptian film, the production combines modern stage technology with performances by the legendary Reda Folklore Troupe, recreating the iconic musical and dance sequences while paying tribute to pioneers Mahmoud Reda and Farida Fahmy.
Also scheduled for 9:00 p.m. is "Lucky Hour" at Awladna Theatre. Produced by the Youth Theatre Company and directed by Hossam El-Touny, the play is based on Mahmoud Teymour's short story Shelter 13 and follows a group of people from different social backgrounds forced to hide together during an air raid, exposing the psychological and social tensions that emerge in times of crisis.
Festival organisers have confirmed that free tickets remain available through the festival's online booking platform, with reservations opening at midnight on the day of each performance.
