The archaeological unit at Cairo International Airport, Terminal 1, managed to seize 13 manuscripts from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries.
In cooperation with the airport police, the unit also succeeded in seizing three papyrus scrolls in poor condition, in addition to a metal coin with tughra that dates back to the Ottoman era.
Secretary-General of Supreme Council of Antiquities Dr. Mostafa Waziri noted that after receiving a call from the Passenger Insurance Police, they immediately formed a committee of specialized archaeologists, headed by Malak Noshi, inspector of antiquities, the Islamic Antiquities Sector.
Furthermore, Head of the Central Administration of Archaeological Ports and Units in the Egyptian Ports Hamdi Hammam asserted that the necessary legal measures were taken and the seizures were subject to the Antiquities Protection Law No. 117 of 1983 and its amendments. All legal measures will be taken in this regard.
On his part, Noshi revealed that they found the manuscripts of Islamic jurisprudence and spiritual medicine by Michael, Bishop of Atrīb, lent prayers in Coptic and Arabic, the Holy Psalmodia, and duas with the name of Prophet Muhammad.
