11th LAFF to Kick off Tonight

The 11th edition of the Luxor African Film Festival (LAFF) will kick off tonight, with the presence of dozens of stars and officials.

The festival activities will take place between March 4 and 10. In addition, there are 35 African countries that participate in the event.

Earlier the organizing committee of the festival announced honoring veteran artist Hussein Fahmy, Apolline Traoré, and Moussa Touré, and Ferid Boughedir.

Regarding the listed entries for the official international competition, they include six films from Egypt, Sudan, Uganda, and Burkina Faso.

The featured films entitled “Tourouni les teresses,” “Kony: Order from Above,” “Nile Crocodile,” “Ebnaty,” and “Touby Lahon.”

In the same context, there are 15 short films set to compete in the short film contest. In addition, there will be four competitions organized by the foundation of Independent Artists.

Moreover, the theme of the festival will be “Re-Exploring Egypt” which will be dedicated to the beauty of the Egyptian sites in the cinema, especially on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Tutankhamun tomb in Luxor discovery.

Uganda was selected as the LAFF forthcoming edition’s guest of honor. In addition, the festival will pay a tribute to the Senegalese composer, director, and actor Djibril Diop Mambéty.
