Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, announced today that Instagram has reached 3 billion monthly active users.
He shared the milestone on his Instagram account, writing, "We've built an amazing community here."
This achievement marks a significant milestone for the photo-sharing app, which Meta acquired in 2012 for $1 billion, according to CNBC.
The last time Meta reported Instagram’s user numbers was in October 2022, when Zuckerberg mentioned during an earnings call that the platform had surpassed 2 billion monthly users.
In April 2024, Meta announced that it would no longer disclose quarterly figures for monthly and daily active users for Facebook and its sister apps.
Instead, Meta began releasing quarterly reports on daily active users across its entire suite of applications.
In July, Meta revealed that this total had reached 3.48 billion, exceeding analysts' estimates of 3.45 billion, with Instagram joining Facebook and WhatsApp in the 3 billion monthly user club.
Earlier this year, Zuckerberg also confirmed that Facebook now has "over 3 billion monthly active users," while WhatsApp surpassed the 3 billion mark as well.
