Zimbabwe's Electoral Commission has announced that the country's president Emmerson Mnangagwa, has won a second term as president.
Mnangagwa won 52.6% of the vote, compared to 44% for his main rival, Nelson Chamisa, according to official results announced by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission.
"We hereby announce Mnangagwa Emmerson Dambudzu of the Zimbabwe African Union/Patriotic Front as the duly elected President of the Republic of Zimbabwe," the chairwoman of the body, Justice Chigumba, told reporters.
Mnangagwa received more than 2.3 million votes, while Chamisa received more than 1.9 million votes.
The Electoral Commission stated that the voter turnout was 69%.
The Guardian newspaper reported earlier that the Zimbabwean Parliament banned criticism of the government before the presidential and parliamentary elections.
