Zimbabwe has been recognised among the top six African nations excelling in agriculture, according to continental output data. This is reported by The Herald, a partner of TV BRICS.

Alongside South Africa, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Kenya, and Egypt, Zimbabwe is now counted among Africa’s leading producers of key crops.

The country has emerged as a powerhouse in both tobacco and blueberry production. This year, Zimbabwe harvested a record 350 million kilogrammes of tobacco, surpassing last year’s 296 million kilogrammes, with an estimated value of US$1.16 billion.

Blueberry cultivation is also expanding rapidly, with production expected to rise by 50 per cent to 12,000 tonnes in 2025 and a longer-term goal of 30,000 tonnes by 2030. Officials highlight that Zimbabwe’s unique climatic conditions give its blueberries a competitive edge in size, flavour, and texture, boosting their appeal in international markets.

These gains have been attributed to the government’s promotion of mechanised farming and investment in export networks under the Second Republic. President Emmerson Mnangagwa has stressed that agriculture remains central to the nation’s economic future, anchoring ambitions for middle-income status by 2030.
