The Global Youth Academy (GYA) announced the selection of Dr. Menattallah El Serafy, a geneticist researcher at the Genome Science Center in Zewail City, as a member of the World Youth Academy from June 2020 to May 2025.
The Germany-based GYA enables young researchers to manage an inter-generational, interdisciplinary international dialogue with the aim of making inclusive and evidence-based decision-making.
It is assumed that members between the ages of 30 and 40 have obtained a PhD from 3 to 10 years ago and hold junior independent academic careers.
Joining the GYA strengthens leadership skills for members and builds a lasting global network, which benefits both the member and its affiliate organization.
El Serafy obtained two fellowships from the "L'Oréal-UNESCO" Women's Science Foundation. She participated in the "Lindau" global conference with a grant from COMSTECH in 2018, and is also a fellow of the "Next Einstein Forum".
She has got several local and international grants from donors such as ICGEB, STDF, ASRT and ASRT-BA. She obtained her master's and doctorate degrees in molecular biology from the University of Heidelberg in Germany.
El Serafy's researches aim to discover new functions of genes and to know how the damage of these genes leads to disease. It is expected that the results of these studies will have a positive effect in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases within the framework of personal medicine.
