Zelenskyy awarded the "defenders of Ukraine" with medals for their courage and wished them a speedy recovery, per the country's government.

"I believe that the best gift for your statement will be our common victory," Zelenskyy said, per Ukraine's Defense Ministry.

Ukrainian officials have announced that a barrage of Russian airstrikes on a military facility in western Ukraine had killed at least 35 people and injured 134.

In the same vein, Russian air strikes killed 35 people at a military base outside Ukraine’s western city of Lviv, the regional governor announced on Sunday.

“I have to announce that, unfortunately, we have lost more heroes: 35 people died as a result of the shelling of the International Peacekeeping and Security Centre,” the governor of Lviv region Maxim Kozitsky wrote on Telegram.

Media outlets reported that massive explosions were heard on Sunday at the base in Yavoriv, a garrison city less than 10 miles from the Polish border.

“My windows shook. The whole house vibrated. It was dark. The sky lit up with two explosions,” said Stepan Chuma, 27, an emergency worker, who hurried to the scene with his colleagues.
