Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiyy is scheduled to address Greece’s parliament on April 7, parliament officials announced on Monday.

Following a telephone call with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Friday, Zelenskiyy accepted an invitation to address the assembly virtually from its speaker Konstantinos Tasoulas.

“It’s important that Greek parliament listens to the message of a president, who along with his country, is defending himself against a barbaric and illegal invasion,” Mitsotakis said after an EU Summit in Brussels.

The president's speech will start at noon (0900 GMT).

Meanwhile, Greece is coordinating with France and other countries to organize a humanitarian aid mission to Mariupol, a southern Ukrainian port city of 400,000 before the Russian war where thousands of ethnic Greeks live.

Mariupol Mayor Vadym Boichenko has stated that around 160,000 people are staying in Ukraine's worst-hit city, which is not suitable for living now.

"It is really horrible. The humiliation that every Mariupol resident is facing today due to the Russian occupation is impossible to express in words,” Boichenko said.
