Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said his country is ready to help Canada extinguish forest fires, after meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who visited Kyiv on Saturday for an unannounced visit.

"Of course, we will not stand aside while Canada is currently facing emergency natural conditions. Ukraine is ready to help put out the fires if Canada needs international assistance," Zelenskyy said.

Currently, 425 fires broke out in Canada, and firefighters were unable to stop the spread of fires in 232 of them. The most affected places are the provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, Quebec, Ontario, and Saskatchewan.

Earlier in the week, smoke from the fires spread over Canadian cities such as Montreal, Ottawa, and Toronto, reaching New York and other cities in the northeastern United States.

By Friday, the fog cleared in Canadian cities, and the US also saw an improvement in the weather.

Rescuers from Australia, New Zealand, the US, France, and South Africa have arrived in Canada to help fight wildfires. The Canadian military is also participating in the effort.
