Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said discussions are ongoing over a possible European role in monitoring any future ceasefire in Ukraine, describing the talks as complex but important for his country.

In his remarks, Zelenskyy said there is a “complicated discussion” regarding the participation of European partners in overseeing a potential truce.

He stressed that European involvement would be significant for Kyiv, particularly in ensuring credible monitoring mechanisms and effective guarantees in the event of a ceasefire agreement.

The Ukrainian leader did not provide further details on the proposed format or timeline of such participation. His comments come as diplomatic efforts continue to explore options for reducing hostilities and laying the groundwork for a possible halt in fighting.

European countries have been among Ukraine’s main backers since the start of the conflict, providing political, economic and military support, and are seen as key stakeholders in any future settlement.
