Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky extended an invitation to former US President Donald Trump on Sunday, urging him to visit Ukraine to demonstrate the feasibility of his claims regarding his ability to end the war between Moscow and Kyiv within 24 hours if he were reelected.
Zelensky expressed skepticism about Trump's assertions and offered to explain the situation to him in just 24 minutes, highlighting that it's not feasible to achieve peace due to the actions of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Trump has, on multiple occasions, claimed that the ongoing conflict in Ukraine would not have occurred had he remained in office.
He asserted that he possesses a plan to resolve the conflict within 24 hours if he were reelected as President of the United States in 2024.
In an interview with NBC News, Zelensky questioned Trump's assertions, stating, "The former U.S. president said he could end the war in about 24 hours, and I invite him to visit Ukraine to explain to him in just 24 minutes that it's not possible to manage this war within that timeframe. He cannot bring about peace due to the actions of Russian President Vladimir Putin."
Zelensky emphasized that he had not been in contact with Trump since the latter left office in 2021.
When asked whether he believed that the former US president would support Ukraine if reelected, Zelensky expressed uncertainty, saying, "Honestly, I don't know." He stressed that when it comes to supporting Ukraine, the opinions of American leaders are crucial, but the views of the American people also matter.
