Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that recent high-level discussions at the World Economic Forum have shifted significantly toward establishing the specific criteria required to bring an end to the nearly four-year conflict with Russia.

Following a "productive and substantive" meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday, Zelensky noted that while the road to peace remains difficult—referring to the final stage as the "last mile"—both sides are now actively negotiating the frameworks for a potential ceasefire and postwar security.

The "Groundhog Day" of War In a blistering address to European leaders, Zelensky described life in Ukraine as a "Groundhog Day" of constant attacks and energy crises. He urged Europe to move out of what he called "Greenland mode"—a state of waiting for U.S. direction—and to take a more muscular role in enforcing sanctions and providing air defense.

"Everyone is very positive, but the backstop of President Trump is always needed," Zelensky stated, emphasizing that no security guarantees would be effective without American power.

Trilateral Talks in the UAE A major breakthrough announced by Zelensky is the upcoming technical-level trilateral meeting between representatives of Ukraine, Russia, and the United States, expected to take place in the United Arab Emirates. This marks the first time all three parties will sit at the same table to discuss a unified peace formula.

While Trump has been vocal in his belief that a deal is close—even warning that both leaders would be "stupid" to reject it—Zelensky remains cautious. He insisted that Russia must be "ready for compromises," stressing that Ukraine cannot be the only party to make concessions regarding its sovereignty and territory.
