Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has issued an open letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin, urging him to end the war and engage in direct negotiations aimed at securing a lasting peace.

In the message, Zelensky said relations between Ukraine and Russia had been fundamentally transformed during Putin's 26 years in power, shifting from economic cooperation to a conflict defined by military strikes and mounting losses.

He argued that the war was a personal choice by Putin rather than a consequence of NATO, geopolitics, or language issues, and warned that growing military casualties, economic pressures, and public dissatisfaction were increasingly weighing on Russia.

Zelensky claimed Russia continues to suffer heavy battlefield losses while repeatedly missing its military objectives, particularly in the Donetsk region. He also accused Moscow of relying on support from North Korea and becoming increasingly dependent on China.

The Ukrainian leader proposed a face-to-face meeting with Putin in a neutral country, suggesting venues such as Switzerland, Turkey, or an Arab state. He said Ukraine is prepared to implement a full ceasefire for the duration of negotiations and support a prisoner exchange based on the principle of "all for all."

Zelensky also called for the return of civilians and children displaced during the conflict and stressed the need for long-term security guarantees involving Europe and the US.

While reaffirming Ukraine's determination to continue defending its independence, Zelensky said the country seeks an end to the war and remains ready to pursue a diplomatic settlement.

He warned that if peace efforts fail, Ukraine would continue its fight for survival with the backing of its international partners.
