Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in the Cypriot capital, Nicosia, on Wednesday morning, marking his first visit since the start of Russian military operations nearly four years ago.

He was received at Larnaca Airport by the Cypriot Minister of Transport, Alexis Vafeades.

Later today, Zelensky is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with President Nikos Christodoulides and attend the opening ceremony of Cyprus's six-month rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

For his part, Cypriot government spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis stated that the meeting between Christodoulides and Zelensky comes at a time when European support for Ukraine remains of paramount importance.

He added that the meeting will focus on peace efforts, upholding international legitimacy, and protecting the fundamental principles upon which the European project is built; principles to which the Republic of Cyprus remains firmly committed.

The spokesperson further noted that Cyprus is fully aware of the consequences of Russian operations in Ukraine.

Zelensky is also expected to attend a joint meeting at the Presidential Palace with President Christodoulides, the President of the European Council, and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.
