Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has called for urgent U.S. support to strengthen Ukraine's air defenses following a wave of Russian missile attacks that killed and injured dozens of people and caused widespread damage to infrastructure.
According to Ukrainian officials, Russia launched more than 30 missiles, including Kalibr cruise missiles, targeting the capital Kyiv and other regions across the country.
The attacks killed at least six people and wounded 63 others in Kyiv, while a separate strike in the Dnipro region left nine people dead and 37 injured, officials said.
The bombardment also damaged critical infrastructure, leading to power and water outages in several neighborhoods as emergency crews worked to clear debris and restore essential services.
Zelenskiy said Ukraine urgently needs additional Western military assistance, particularly air defense systems, to counter continuing Russian attacks.
He warned that further strikes could occur in the coming hours, as air raid alerts remained in effect across multiple regions of the country.
Russia has intensified missile and drone attacks in recent weeks as the war, now in its fourth year, continues with no sign of a negotiated settlement. On the other hand, Ukraine has repeatedly appealed to its Western allies for additional military support to protect civilian areas and critical infrastructure from Russian strikes.
