Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy stated, on Sunday, that Ukraine is establishing a foreign "international" legion for volunteers from abroad.
"This will be the key evidence of your support for our country," Zelenskiy said in a statement.
Zelenskiy asserted that his country is ready for peace talks with Russia but not in Belarus, which was an invasion staging ground, adding that “We will fight for as long as needed to liberate our country."
In previous remarks, Ukraine’s leader has vowed to stay in Kyiv amid Russia’s severe attacks to fully take control of the country, asserting that his family is also in Ukraine.
“(The) enemy has marked me down as the number one target,” he warned. “My family is the number two target. They want to destroy Ukraine politically by destroying the head of state.”
The United Nations said at least 64 civilians were killed in Ukraine since Russia's invasion on Thursday, noting that the "real figures are considerably higher" because many reports of casualties remain to be confirmed.
Russia launched its invasion on Ukraine by land, air and sea Thursday morning following a declaration of war by President Vladimir Putin. Thousands of citizens fled as explosions and gunfire rocked major cities, and dozens were killed, according to reports.
