On Sunday, the Egyptian Health Minister Dr. Hala Zayed called on citizens to continue to take all precautionary measures to curb the outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19), stressing the importance of wearing face masks, in addition to keeping social distancing, using sanitizers and maintaining personal hygiene.
During her speech at the ministry's conference to review the latest epidemiological situation in Egypt, Zayed said that Cairo, Alexandria and Giza governorates have the highest number of coronavirus cases.
She added that the health ministry is always on high alert nationwide to provide all needed medical supplies to ensure the safety of the heath workers at hospitals, in addition to coordinating with all the bodies concerned to provide maximum safety and protective measures to schools and university students.
Zayed confirmed that 65% of coronavirus infected cases in Egypt are housewives and retirees from work, especially those who live in poorly ventilated areas, noting that drivers, farmers and workers who go for work and practice their everyday lives are less likely to contract the virus.
She noted that the ministry raises its preparedness at all the country’s ports and airports to monitor the virus developments, receiving inquires from citizens about the virus through its hotline 105 or 15335 or through on the Sehet Misr (Egypt’s health) mobile application.
Notably, Egypt reported 208 new coronavirus cases on Saturday bringing the total infection tally to 108,962 since the outbreak began in February.
The health ministry also reported 12 new deaths, bringing the total number of deaths from the virus to 6,355
The statement said that 133 patients have been discharged after recovering from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 100,239.
