Zamalek's Christian Gross shortlisted for CAF Coach of Year Award

Zamalek former manager Swiss Christian Gross, currently head coach of Al-Ahli Saudi FC, is among ten nominees for CAF Coach of the Year 2019 award after leading the Whites to hold the Confederation Cup title after a 16-year hiatus from continental trophies.

The 65-year-old won the Saudi-Egyptian Super Cup with the White Knights against Al Hilal.

He has been shortlisted alongside Aliou Cisse (Senegal – Senegal), Corentin Martins (France - Mauritania), Djamel Belmadi (Algeria - Algeria), Faouzi Benzarti (Tunisia - Wydad Athletic Club), Gernot Rohr (Germany - Nigeria), Moïne Chaâbani (Tunisia – Esperance), Mounir Jaouani (Morocco - Berkane FC), Nicolas Dupuis (France - Madagascar), and Pitso Mosimane (South Africa - Mamelodi Sundowns).

The CAF awards ceremony is an annual event to celebrate African footballers and officials who have distinguished themselves during the year.

The awards were only given to best African Footballer of the Year, but they were expanded to other categories with the inclusion of women footballers for their enormous contribution to the game.

Increasingly enjoying great popularity beyond the shores of Africa, the Awards is bestowed on every inpidual on pure merit for his or her exemplary contribution towards the development and promotion of football, on and off the pitch within the outside and within the continent.

The 2019 awards features several award categories for men’s and women’s football including: African Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, Youth Player of the Year, National Team of the Year, Goal of the Year, Africa Finest XI, Federation of the Year and several new award categories which will recognize exceptional contributions to African football and inspiring inpiduals.
