Zamalek managed to claim their Egypt Cup title after beating arch rivals Ahly 2-1 on Thursday in Cairo stadium.

The Whites saw them go 2-0 up with goals from Ahmed “Zizo” El Sayed and Emam Ashour on 6 and 30 minutes.

Ahly have regained their composure in the second half and Hossam Hassan pulled one back in the 55th minute but that was no more than a consolation goal.

The Whites have won their 28th title and completed their fourth domestic double after 1959/60, 1987/88 and 2014/15.

A special milestone for Portuguese coach Jesualdo Ferreira who masterminded their previous achievment in 2015.

A blunder from keeper Mohamed El Shennawy allowed Zamalek to grab an early lead after only six minutes. Tunisian striker Seifeddine Jaziri skipped past the advancing keeper and crossed the ball to Zizo in the area who headed the opener in an empty net.

The Whites maintained their blistering start with a vibrant Achraf Bencharki keeping Ahly defenders on their toes.

Ashour doubled his team’s lead with an excellent curler after an exchange of pass with Zizo on the edge of the area.

Zamalek could have extended their lead but El Shennawi redeemed himself with some fine saves to deny close chances from Bencharki and Mahmoud “El Wensh” Hamdi.
