The Russian Embassy organized the first Russian-Egyptian Media Forum under the theme of "The Status of the Egyptian and African Media in the Perspective of the Changing Global Media" at the Russian House, Cairo, on 11 June.
The forum is within the framework of Russia's preparations to organize the Russia-Africa Summit next July in the Russian city of St. Petersburg.
The forum featured apperances by the Russian Ambassador to Egypt, Georgy Borisenko, and an array of journalists from leading media outlets in the two countries, including the Head of RT-Arabic TV, Maya Mannaa; the Executive Director of TeN TV Nashat El-Dihi; and the Editor-in-Chief of Al-Shorouk newspaper Emad El-Din Hussein, together with representatives of scientific and social circles and eminent experts.
In his adress, Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid highlited the very good relationship between the two countries in conjounction with the 80th anniversary of the establishment of Egyptian-Russian diplomatic relations .
The spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Maria Zakharova, who delivered the welcome speech, asserted that Moscow will closely study the results of the consultations and suggested that these consultations continue, within the framework of the relevant session in the upcoming Russian-African summit, to develop effective mechanisms for equal cooperation in the field of public communications.
In his speech on behalf of the graduates, Sharif Jad asserted the importance of rapid reaction from the Russian and African side and finding a common media criteria away from the domination of the West, which attempts to distory the facts.
Jad also hailed the One-Africa platform, which was founded by the Senegalese "Al-Husseini Ba", calling on the Russian media in Cairo to facilitate the communication process between Egyptian journalists and media with political figures and cultural figures in Russia.
