Yemeni House of Representatives Speaker Sultan Al-Barakani called for the establishment of a joint Arab defense and deterrence system, including a rapid intervention force, to safeguard Arab national security, warning that the region is facing one of its most critical periods amid ongoing conflicts and growing foreign interference.

Addressing the Eighth Conference of the Arab Parliament and Speakers of Arab Parliaments in Cairo, Al-Barakani said the Arab world is at a decisive stage that requires unified action. He warned that the region has become an arena for prolonged conflicts stretching from Gaza and Lebanon to Yemen, Iraq, Syria, and the Gulf.

He called for the creation of a joint Arab defense and deterrence framework capable of protecting the sovereignty of Arab states and responding to external threats and attacks.

Al-Barakani accused Iran of continuing to interfere in Arab affairs through armed groups, saying Yemen has become a dangerous example of such interference. He said the country has been plunged into war and a humanitarian crisis as a result of the actions of the Iran-backed Houthi group.

He also said Israel remains one of the main threats to Arab security because of its continued military operations against the Palestinian people. Describing the situation in Gaza as "a moral test for humanity," he cited ongoing bombardment, starvation, the blockade, and the mounting civilian death toll.

Al-Barakani said lasting peace can only be achieved through justice, adding that stability built on the suffering of peoples cannot endure. He renewed Yemen's support for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He concluded by urging Arab parliaments to strengthen their legislative and political role and translate the aspirations of Arab peoples into practical policies and unified positions to protect Arab security and build a more stable future for the region.
