Yemeni Government Announces Restart of Aden Airport

The Yemeni government announced on Saturday the restart of Aden International Airport, as of Sunday, days after an attack targeted the airport upon the arrival of the new government to the status quo capital of Yemen.

The official Saba News Agency stated that "Minister of Transport, Abdel-Salam Hameed, during his inspection, directed concerned officials to start rehabilitating Aden airport and removing the damage caused to it.

The minister also ordered them to resume of air transportation and the operation of flights tomorrow, Sunday.

During his visit to the airport, Hameed said, "We are facing a great challenge. We must all join hands and work in a team spirit for the return of the airport to work after the treacherous terrorist attack."

He added that the attack "will not deter us from working and activating and maintaining state institutions despite the difficulties and obstacles."

On Friday, the process of repairing the damages of the attacks that targeted Aden airport began.

The Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen announced that "a team from the program has begun to repair the areas affected by the attacks in Aden airport to restart it," explaining that "this came after coordination with the Yemeni government."

The government accused the Houthi group of being behind the bombings that targeted the airport, while the group denied the accusations.

Three explosions occurred at Aden airport, coinciding with the arrival of the new Yemeni government plane on Wednesday, killing 25 people and wounding 110 others.

The Yemeni Ministry of Health confirmed that the number of victims of the attack that targeted Aden airport, which the government accused the "Ansar Allah" group of launching, has risen to more than 130 dead and wounded, with a toll expected to increase.

On his part, the Minister of Health, Qassem Bhaibeh, wrote on "Twitter" that "25 martyrs and 110 wounded, victims of the crime of terrorism that targeted the airport," adding that "the number is likely to increase in some cases."

On Wednesday, the Yemeni Foreign Ministry accused the Houthis of targeting Aden airport with four ballistic missiles, while the group denied that it was behind the attack.
