Yemen receives 1st COVID-19 vaccine batch

Yemen received the first COVID-19 vaccine batch on Wednesday as part of the COVID-19 Vaccines Global Access (COVAX) initiative.

The first shipment contained 360, 000 AstraZeneca doses, in addition, the state is expected to receive a total of 1.9 million vaccine doses in 2021, UNICEF asserted in an official statement.

Moreover, COVAX sent to the state 13000 shipping boxes for restoring the doses and 130,000 syringes and injection tools for helping it to start the vaccination campaign safely.

The doses have arrived in Aden Port because the city is the internationally recognized capital of Yemen.

Last week, COVAX has also sent 132, 000 AstraZeneca vaccines to South Sudan for helping the country protect its citizens.

In addition, it received 132,500 syringes and a number of boxes for cycling the injection tools safely.

The South Sudanese Health Minister Hon Elizabeth Achuei explained that this shipment is the first of 800,000 doses.
