Yemeni authorities on Friday announced the launch of an operation dubbed “Camp Takeover” in the eastern province of Hadramout, aimed at peacefully and systematically taking control of military camps as part of broader efforts to restore security and prevent the spread of armed disorder.

The announcement was made by Salem Al-Khanbashi, Governor of Hadramout and Commander-in-Chief of the National Shield Forces in the province. The move marks Al-Khanbashi’s first official decision since being formally appointed by the Chairman of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Ziad Al-Alimi, granting him full military, security, and administrative authority in the governorate.

According to Yemen’s official news agency, Al-Khanbashi stressed that the operation is being carried out peacefully and in an organized manner, and is strictly limited to military installations. He emphasized that the campaign does not target any political or social groups, nor does it pose any threat to civilians, their lives, or their interests.

“This is not a declaration of war, nor an attempt to escalate tensions,” Al-Khanbashi said, describing the operation as a preventive and responsible measure designed to neutralize weapons, prevent chaos, protect civilians, and safeguard public security and social stability.

He added that the current actions are part of a controlled and limited operation, focused solely on military camps, underscoring the authorities’ commitment to maintaining calm and avoiding any disruption to daily life in the province.

Hadramout, Yemen’s largest governorate, has long been viewed as a strategic region where security stability is critical to broader national efforts aimed at restoring state authority amid ongoing political and military challenges.
