Today, Wednesday, the Council of the European Union adopted a number of resolutions regarding the Yemeni file.
The Council noted the deep concern of the European Union (EU) about the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the country, as more than 70% of the population needs humanitarian assistance, and more than half of the population faces severe food insecurity.
The EU reaffirmed its commitment as a principle to the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Yemen, and its full support for the peace efforts being made by the United Nations and for the United Nations Special Envoy, Hans Grundberg, in his mediation efforts.
The EU urged the Houthis to abandon their hardline stances and engage constructively with UN Special Envoy Grundberg.
The European Union emphasized the response to the humanitarian imperative of supporting the Yemeni people. Funding for the international response remains largely below the required level, including the provision of humanitarian relief and development support in Yemen.
