Israeli reports revealed today, Saturday, that the number of wounded among the ranks of the Israeli army during the ongoing battles in the Gaza Strip has reached 5,000 soldiers and officers since the beginning of the war on October 7th.

Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper reported that 2,000 of the injured were classified by the Israeli Ministry of Defense as “disabled” due to the seriousness of their injuries, including 1,000 soldiers in the regular army.

The newspaper quoted the head of the Rehabilitation Department at the Ministry of Defense, Limor Luria, as saying, “Israel has never witnessed an event like this before in terms of the number of injured people.”

She added, "58% of the soldiers have limb injuries, as they were subjected to the amputation of a leg or arm."

Loria described “12% of wounds as injuries to internal organs such as the spleen and kidneys, in addition to injuries to the head and eyes, in addition to 7% of soldiers suffering from direct psychological symptoms.”

In turn, Idan Kleiman, head of the Israel Defense Forces Disabled Organization, said, “Israel is experiencing an unprecedented event, especially since there are also thousands of injured civilians who have been living with the impact of trauma since last October 7.”

Kleiman pointed out that "100,000 Israelis have participated since the seventh day of October in fighting, rescue work, and dealing with thousands of Israeli corpses."

Kleiman explained that "10% of these people may suffer from the effects of trauma in the future."
