Chinese President Xi Jinping has sent a reply to a letter from a US youth education exchange delegation made up of teachers and students from the Diamond Minds Transformational Leadership Academy in Miami, the University of Florida, and Miami-Dade College, according to Xinhua.
In his reply, dated January 7, Xi said he was glad to learn that the delegation enjoyed a meaningful and rewarding visit to China, noting their strong interest in and genuine appreciation for Chinese culture.
He emphasized that the foundation of China–U.S. relations rests with the people, while the future of bilateral ties depends on younger generations.
Xi highlighted the impact of the “50,000 in Five Years” initiative, under which more than 40,000 young Americans have already taken part in exchanges with China.
He said the program has helped U.S. youth gain a better understanding of the country and has served as a bridge for strengthening friendship between the two peoples.
This, he added, reflects a shared desire among both Chinese and Americans to promote friendly exchanges and cooperation.
The Chinese president expressed hope that more young people from the United States would participate in fostering China–US friendship, encouraging them to act as a new generation of goodwill ambassadors and contribute to stronger people-to-people ties and the healthy development of bilateral relations.
The US delegation had earlier written to Xi to reflect on their visit to China in October 2025 and to express appreciation for the “50,000 in Five Years” initiative, saying it offered an important opportunity to deepen mutual understanding between young people in both countries, Xinhua reported.
