​Xi, Putin Sign 20 Cooperation Agreements, Joint Declaration

​Chinese President Xi Jinping and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin signed 20 cooperation documents today, Wednesday, during a summit in Beijing, alongside a joint declaration on the "comprehensive strategic coordination" between the two nations.

​According to the Chinese news agency, Xinhua, Putin and Xi signed a joint statement aimed at further enhancing comprehensive strategic cooperation and deepening cooperation in good neighborliness and friendship, following official talks between the delegations of both countries at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

​Furthermore, China and Russia jointly announced an initiative aimed at promoting a "multipolar" world order as part of deepening the strategic partnership between the two countries, Reuters reported.

​The Kremlin described the talks between Putin and Xi as positive, noting that both sides discussed several portfolios, including energy projects. It added that an agreement had been reached on an important energy-related matter.

​During a press conference following the signing of the agreements, the Chinese President stated that Sino-Russian relations "have continued to improve and have reached the highest level of comprehensive strategic partnership."

President Xi Jinping: "The two countries deal with each other on the basis of equality and mutual respect, and bilateral relations have reached a new starting point."

​President Xi pointed out that China and Russia will enhance mutual support, maintain close strategic communication, and sustain exchanges at various levels.

​The Chinese President also confirmed that both countries will work toward fully utilizing the interdependence of their energy resources, while aligning Russia's development path with China's development plan.
