Chinese President Xi Jinping on Sunday expressed his condolences for the victims of the Jeju Air passenger plane crash in South Korea.
In a message of condolence to Choi Sang Mok, the acting president of South Korea, Xi expressed his sorrow over the loss of lives following the crash of the plane at Muan International Airport in South Korea, according to the Chinese news agency Xinhua.
In his message, Xi said he was shocked and saddened to learn that the accident caused significant human losses. On behalf of the Chinese government and people, he extended his condolences for the loss of lives and his sympathy to the families of the victims, wishing a swift recovery to the injured.
It is noted that Jeju Air flight 2216 crashed earlier today when it veered off the runway during landing and collided with a fence at Muan International Airport, located about 288 kilometers southwest of Seoul. The plane was carrying 181 passengers.
