The social media platform X, owned by billionaire Elon Musk, suffered a sudden outage on Sunday, disrupting service for thousands of users across the United States, according to data from DownDetector, a website that tracks digital service interruptions.

DownDetector reported receiving more than 19,281 user complaints regarding issues on the platform, formerly known as Twitter. The site aggregates reports from multiple sources to provide real-time outage monitoring.

In a separate development, X announced a new initiative to tackle misleading and manipulated images. The platform is introducing a feature that flags edited images with a warning label, alerting users that the media has been altered.

However, the company has not yet provided detailed guidance on how the system classifies modified images. It remains unclear whether the feature targets only AI-generated or digitally manipulated content or also includes images edited using traditional tools such as Photoshop.

The outage marks the latest in a series of service disruptions for X, highlighting the challenges the platform faces in maintaining stability while rolling out new features aimed at content authenticity.
