Brazil has officially banned access to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) as of today, following a court order issued against the service owned by billionaire Elon Musk.
Users attempting to access the platform, whether through a web browser or the app, are met with an "error" message.
This action comes after the Brazilian Supreme Court's decision on Friday to suspend X's operations nationwide.
The ban was enforced due to Musk's refusal to appoint a legal representative in Brazil, as required by Brazilian law.
The court's order follows the closure of X’s Brazilian office on August 17, after Judge Alexandre de Moraes threatened legal action against the platform's local representatives for failing to comply with user ban orders.
In a related escalation, the Supreme Court also rejected an appeal from Starlink, another of Musk's ventures, to lift the freeze on its financial accounts. Starlink's accounts were blocked earlier this week as part of ongoing legal disputes involving X, according to CNN Brazil.
During the past 24 hours, Brazilians, including President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, have bid farewell to the platform, with many sharing their profiles on alternative social media networks.
