X, the social media platform owned by Elon Musk, announced on Saturday that it will close its office in Brazil with immediate effect.

The decision comes in response to actions taken by Brazilian Supreme Court Judge Alexandre de Moraes, who reportedly exerted pressure on the company.

The platform cited concerns over what it described as secretive threats made by Judge Moraes towards one of its legal representatives in Brazil.

These threats were linked to the platform’s compliance with legal demands to remove certain content. Despite the office closure, X's services will remain available to users in Brazil.

Earlier this year, Judge Moraes had ordered X to block certain accounts as part of an investigation into what has been termed “digital militias,” which are accused of spreading false information and hateful content during the administration of former President Jair Bolsonaro.

In response, Musk had expressed his intention to reactivate accounts that had been banned by the judge's orders, which he criticized as unconstitutional.

Despite Musk's public challenge, X's representatives later assured Brazil's Supreme Court that the platform would comply with the legal rulings. In a related development, British lawmakers are considering summoning Musk for questioning before the House of Commons.

This comes in the wake of recent riots in the UK and comments made by Musk that have been interpreted as inflammatory.

These lawmakers intend to scrutinize the role of social media platforms like X in the increasing unrest within the country.

Musk has been involved in heated exchanges with British politicians regarding the riots, including a notable dispute with Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

Musk suggested that civil conflict in the UK is inevitable and criticized the police response as being biased.
