The World Youth Forum announced Wednesday the organization of a simulation model of the International Human Rights Council of the United Nations, MUNHRC, as a part of the activities of the fourth edition of the Forum.

The WYF's 4th edition will be held from January 10 to 13, 2022, in Sharm El Sheikh in South Sinai, under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

Five thousand young men and women applied to participate in the form during the registration period for the forum, and a number of them were selected to represent young people from Egypt and various countries around the world.

A simulation model of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) will be held at the fourth edition of the WYF, through a special session entitled "The Implications of the COVID-19 Pandemic on the Realization of the Right to Health", with the aim of creating a state of constructive dialogue, presenting inspiring ideas and realistic recommendations that contribute to the world’s exit from the Corona pandemic in safety and peace, while respecting and observing all human rights guaranteed under local and international human rights charters.

The WYF2021’s interest in organizing a simulation model of the UNHRC comes in light of the adoption by the United Nations of the World Youth Forum as an international platform for dialogue in February 2021 and the launch of the United Nations Human Development Report in Egypt for the current year 2021.

WYF's Former Simulation Models

The WYF2021 interest in holding simulation models began since the launch of its first version in 2017, with the holding of the United Nations Security Council simulation model as the first simulation model within the forum sessions. More than 60 young people from different countries of the world participated to discuss various topics of global interest in accordance with the rules of work and the basis for dealing in the actual sessions of the United Nations and the Security Council, especially the file of combating security threats to international peace and security by terrorist groups.

During the WYF in its second edition in 2018, a simulation model of the Arab African Summit was held. Participating youth from representatives of 67 Arab and African countries discussed a number of different topics; they aimed at finding solutions to the common challenges they face as youth, and ways to enhance cooperation between Arab and African youth, in addition to the prospects for economic integration in Africa and the Arab world, and the exchange of visions and ideas in order to create a better future for the Arab world and the continent together.

The simulation model of the Union for the Mediterranean topped the most important dialogue sessions at the WYF2019. It discussed many important issues of common interest, on top of which is "climate change", with the participation of youth representatives of the member states of the Union: Egypt, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Estonia, France, the League of Arab States, Ireland, Lithuania, Lebanon, Malta, Poland, and Monaco.

In conclusion, the representatives of Member States unanimously agreed on the need to combat the damage caused by climate change, with a recommendation to educate citizens about environmental damage and the need to take strict measures to reduce carbon emissions and sign related treaties.

About the UNHRC

The Human Rights Council is an intergovernmental body affiliated with the United Nations that aims to promote and protect human rights throughout the world and investigates allegations of human rights violations in member states of the United Nations.

The Council also has the power to discuss all human rights issues throughout the year. It holds its meetings at the United Nations office in Geneva.

It is worth noting that the International Human Rights Council, at its forty-first session, issued the first UN resolution in which reference is made to the contributions made by the World Youth Forum in its first and second editions as an international forum for discussing global issues from the perspective of youth.

About the World Youth Forum

The World Youth Forum is an annual global event held in Sharm El-Sheikh in South Sinai, under the auspices of President Sisi. The forum was launched in three editions in the past three years: 2017, 2018, and 2019.

The WYF aims to bring together the world's youth in order to promote dialogue and discuss development issues, and to send a message of peace and prosperity from Egypt to the world.

The United Nations Commission for Social Development has adopted the three previous editions of the World Youth Forum in Egypt as an international platform for discussing youth issues.
