WYF... Egyptian Youth Create World's Future

The United Nations adopted the World Youth Forum (WYF) as an international platform, in recognition of the contributions of the three editions of the forum in discussing contemporary issues of young people and their role in achieving the 2030 sustainable development agenda.

The Permanent Mission of Egypt to the United Nations at Geneva managed to pass a resolution in the International Human Rights Council at its fortieth session entitled “Youth and Human Rights”. 

The Egyptian delegation presented in front of the Human Rights Council how the World Youth Forum was established in 2017 as a platform to support youth ideas providing ample and adequate space to express and exchange their opinions without barriers and to come up with recommendations for decision-makers.

Egypt’s delegation referred that around 5000 youth from around the world took part in the last edition of 2018 to express their opinions regarding the global challenges facing our world today whereas several sessions and workshops were held.

WYF Addresses New, Urgent Topics

The Permanent Mission of Egypt to the United Nations in New York, within the framework of the work of the UN Commission for Social Development (UNCSocD) included the decision issued by the 59th session to support the contributions of the World Youth Forum, launched by Egypt in addressing youth issues at the regional and international levels.

On February 16, the UNCSocD approved the resolution, which was sponsored by Egypt and submitted by Senegal, Cape Verde, Portugal and Kazakhstan, including a special reference to the three editions of the WYF that was launched in Sharm el-Sheikh in 2017 as an international platform to discuss youth issues.

Egypt's Permanent Representative to the UN Mohamed Idris stated that youths’ issues were currently a top priority on the UN agenda. 

“It also comes as a recognition to the contributions of the three editions of the forum which tackled contemporary issues related to youth and their role in achieving the 2030 sustainable development agenda,” Idris added.

It should be noted that the Egyptian mission was able to include in the resolution the special reference to the WYF, which came with the support of many delegations of African countries, in a way that contributes to promoting the results of the forum and consolidating its position on the international map, at a time witnessing the preparation for holding the annual youth forum by the UNCSocD. 

Influential Platform

The WYF is an influential platform established by a group of promising young people to send a message of peace, prosperity and harmony, and present it to the entire world.

Young people from all over the world participate in a rich international forum, to express their views and come up with recommendations and initiatives, in the presence of elite leaders and influential figures.

Opportunity to communicate

The WYF is an opportunity to communicate with major decision-makers and thinkers around the world. It is also an opportunity to get to know a perse group of promising young people from different nationalities around the world, young people with a dream, will and determination to make a real change in today's world and tomorrow's world.

A 3-year-old experience has directed the attention of the whole world to the cities of Egypt.

The activities of the forum, in its three editions, which began in 2017, witnessed the presentation of a new and perse set of issues and challenges on the discussion table in the presence of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and a number of decision-makers around the world.

The beginning was on April 25, 2017, when a group of Egyptian youth presented, during the National Youth Conference in Ismailia, their initiative to conduct a dialogue with world youth.

Immediately, President Sisi responded by announcing his call to all young people from different countries of the world, to express their views and their vision for the future of their homelands and for the whole world.

The WYF was held for the first time in November 2017. Since then, the opportunity has become available for young people to network with senior decision-makers, and to communicate with promising young people from the region and all over the world, intent on making the world a better place for all.

In the forum, a perse group of attendees participated; Including heads of state and government, international youth leaders, inspiring youth in various fields, eminent international personalities and youth groups from all over the world.

WYF First Edition

The First WYF was held from 4-10 November 2017, in Sharm El Sheikh, under the patronage and in the presence of Sisi. A large group of young people from different nationalities and fields participated in the forum, where more than 3 thousand young people from 113 countries gathered.

It had 222 speakers from 64 countries with expertise in various fields, through 46 sessions and more than 70 working hours.

In the presence of a large number of different leaders, intellectuals and thinkers, international issues were discussed on topics: Migration and refugees, democracy, human rights, stability and development of Africa, globalization and cultural identity, technology and social media and their impact on the population, among other important topics on the international arena. 

Also, the forum witnessed a simulation of the UN Security Council through WYF-MUN.

WYF Second Edition

The 2nd edition was held in Sharm El-Sheikh from 3 to 6 November 2018, under the patronage and in the presence of Sisi, and with the participation of more than 5 thousand young people from different nationalities.

In its second edition, the World Youth Forum continued to emphasize its role as a platform for youth to express their views on the challenges facing our world from the perspective of youth.

The World Youth Forum 2018 provided many opportunities for young people to participate through panel discussions, round tables and workshops, in addition to this, young people were given the opportunity to apply the topics discussed in an educational way through many side events organized during WYF 2018.

WYF Third Edition

The activities of the World Youth Forum 2019, in its third edition, were launched in Sharm El-Sheikh from 14 to 17 December 2019, under the patronage and in the presence of Sisi, and with the participation of more than 5 thousand young people from different countries of the world.

Participants in the World Youth Forum discussed a range of issues and files that revolve in the minds of young people at the local, regional and international levels, especially in the era of unprecedented technological developments, and the challenges posed by climate change and the fourth industrial revolution.

forum witnessed the launch of the INSPIRE platform. D. It also witnessed the launch of the World Youth Theater for the first time, through a group of new artistic performances from different cultures of different peoples.
