On the sidelines of the 12th World Urban Forum (WUF12) , which runs in Egypt from November 4 to 8, 2024, the Ministry of Culture, represented by the National Organization for Urban Harmony (NOUH), participated in the symposium titled "Revitalization of The Heritage Cairo."
This symposium focused on the collaborative efforts of state agencies in the preservation of heritage, the restoration of significant areas, and the rehabilitation of at-risk zones.
In his address at the symposium, the head of NOUH Eng. Mohamed Abo Saada emphasized the crucial role of the Authority in safeguarding the unique architectural heritage across the Republic, highlighting that the Authority has cataloged 7,000 notable architectural structures throughout Egypt.
He further elaborated on the objectives and mechanisms of urban coordination, particularly the importance of enhancing community awareness regarding heritage.
In the same connection, he presented several key projects undertaken by the Authority, including "Developing and Reviving Khedivial Cairo," "Developing Capitals of Governorate Cities," the "Memory of the City" initiative, as well as "The Story of a Street," "Heritage Tours in Zamalek and Port Said," and the publication of books on heritage sites such as Zamalek, Garden City, Siwa, and Heliopolis.
Abo Saada also discussed the evidence and requirements guiding the Authority's work. Eng. Mahmoud Nassar, Head of the Central Agency for Reconstruction, also contributed to the session by outlining the agency's efforts in preserving historical, heritage, and archaeological sites through revival, restoration, and development initiatives aimed at transforming Cairo's heritage into a cultural and tourist landmark.
Additionally, he provided a presentation on projects including the "Restoration of Sakakini Pasha Palace," "Zainab Khatoun Palace," "Northern and Eastern Walls of Cairo," and "Fustat Hills and their Excavations."
