Wrap-up: Global, Arab Reactions to GCC Summit

As the leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) signed the closing statement of the 41st Gulf summit, world countries began to praise the outcomes of this summit to heal the rift and restore the fraternal relations among GCC states.

Palestine

The Palestinian Presidency expressed its welcome and appreciation for the firm stances of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries to support the Palestinian cause, according to the statement of the Gulf Summit held in Al-Ula Governorate in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Spokesman for the Palestinian presidency, Nabil Abu Rudeineh, said that the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas expresses his thanks and deep appreciation for the clear and strong positions of the leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council states during the summit in which they confirmed their support for the permanent sovereignty of the Palestinian people on all the Palestinian territories occupied since June 1967.

Djibouti

The Republic of Djibouti also hailed the successful convening of the 41st GCC Summit in Al-Ula Governorate in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, saying that (Sultan Qaboos and Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Summit) will contribute to addressing the main challenges in this important part of the world.

It also said in a statement issued by the Presidency of the Republic of Djibouti that it is pleased with the breakthrough and harmony achieved at this summit.

Djibouti praised the wise policy and efforts made to restore understanding and unity within the framework of this ancient council, according to "SPA".

Arab league

The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, welcomed the outcomes of the summit.

“Any effective move that leads to the improvement of the Arab atmosphere, serves the interest of the collective Arab order, and strengthens the power and influence of the Arab League, is welcomed since the huge challenges facing the Arab world require healing the rift as soon as possible and achieving harmony between brotherhood,” Aboul Gheit said.

Organization of Islamic Cooperation

For its part, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation welcomed signing "Al-Ula Statement” during the 41st GCC summit.

The Secretary-General of the organization, Dr. Yusuf bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen, who attended the Gulf summit, praised the efforts of His Highness Late Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad, and the follow-up of Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad, the Emir of Kuwait, in addition to the efforts made by the United States of America.

He praised the efforts of the leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council to preserve this entity, in order to achieve the interests of the peoples of their countries, and preserve the security and stability of the region.

Jordan

Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said in a press statement: “The Al-Ula summit statement represents a great achievement for healing the rift, ending the Gulf crisis, and returning fraternal relations to their normal course.”

He stressed the importance of this step to enhance solidarity and stability in the Gulf region, serve the aspirations of its peoples for growth and prosperity, and contribute to strengthening comprehensive Arab solidarity and efforts to face common challenges.

Gulf Cooperation Council

The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Nayef Falah Al-Hajraf, announced that the Gulf summit called for strengthening military cooperation among the GCC states.

The Secretary-General of the Council considered that "Egypt's signing of the" Al-Ula "summit statement confirms the closer fraternal relations between Egypt and the GCC countries.

Italy

Italian Minister of European Affairs, Enzo Amendola, welcomed the outcomes of the 41st GCC summit.

He tweeted: “Good news from the Gulf. It is time to return back once again to the dialogue and cooperation table.”

US

The US State Department announced, on Tuesday evening, that the progress achieved through Al-Ula statement at the GCC summit is encouraging and represents a positive step towards restoring Gulf and Arab unity.

It also welcomed the restoration of cooperation in military, economic and health initiatives and combating corruption, noting that it hoped that the Gulf states would continue to settle their differences.

“Restoring full diplomatic relations is imperative for all parties in the region to confront common threats.” The US State Department also thanked Kuwait for its mediation efforts and its support for resolving the Gulf conflict.

Turkey

The Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement, published on its website, that it welcomes the will to resolve the Gulf dispute and the announcement of the resumption of diplomatic relations with the State of Qatar.

It reaffirmed that turkey attaches great importance to unity and solidarity inside the Gulf Cooperation Council.
