The world’s most expensive fixed broadband internet markets in 2026 are largely concentrated in island territories and smaller economies, according to global pricing data measuring average monthly subscription costs in U.S. dollars through June 2026.
The rankings show that island nations and territories account for 18 of the world’s 25 most expensive fixed broadband markets, reflecting challenges related to infrastructure, connectivity costs and limited competition.
Leading the global ranking is Wallis and Futuna, where average fixed broadband costs reach $373.88 per month, making it the most expensive market worldwide.
It is followed by:
Turkmenistan $286.24 per month
Turks and Caicos Islands $252.00 per month
Saint Barthélemy $207.26 per month
Eswatini $193.31 per month
Syria $189.92 per month
High Costs Across Smaller Markets
The list also includes several countries and territories where internet infrastructure is affected by geographic isolation, limited networks or higher operational costs.
Other markets among the most expensive include:
Burundi $186.46 per month
Comoros $175.12 per month
Cayman Islands $167.39 per month
British Virgin Islands $155.00 per month
Infrastructure Challenges Drive Prices
High broadband prices in many of these markets are linked to the cost of building and maintaining telecom networks, especially in remote island locations where undersea cables, equipment and logistics create additional expenses.
