World’s largest container ship ‘EVER ACE’ crossed Suez Canal, Saturday, on its first voyage through the canal in the southern convoy during its journey from China to the Netherlands.
Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, observed the navigation's movement and ordered the ship to take all necessary procedures to ensure safe passage through the appointment of a group of senior authority guides.
The giant ship, which contains a capacity of 23,992 TEU, follows the shipping line "EVER GREEN". It exceeds the capacity of "HMM ALGAZERAS" to become the largest ship in the world in terms of the number of containers.
In this manner, Rabie affirmed that crossing the ship through the canal for the first time reflects the navigation community’s confidence in the canal’s ability to receive and accommodate current and future generations of giant container ships.
He also pointed out that around 210 ships, belonging to the shipping line, have crossed the Suez Canal during the past year, with a total net tonnage of 31 million and 774 thousand tons.
In addition, about 145 ships crossed since the beginning of this year, with a total net tonnage of 22 million and 407 thousand tons.
In the same context, the GlOBAL MERCY, the world's largest civilian hospital ship, crossed through the canal on Saturday for the first time, as part of the southern convoy in the new navigational course coming from Singapore and heading to Malta.
