Ticket prices for the 2026 FIFA World Cup have soared on FIFA’s official resale platform. Seats for many matches are being sold at multiple times their original value, even though most tickets were recently released.
For example, a “category three” seat for the opening game between Mexico and South Africa at Azteca Stadium is listed at US$5,324 instead of the original US$895, while a seat for the final in East Rutherford is advertised at US$143,750, more than 41 times its face value.
Despite the high prices, demand remains strong, reflecting global excitement. FIFA states it only facilitates the resale for a 15% fee, with resellers setting the prices. While most prices have increased, a few tickets for certain matches have been slightly reduced.
FIFA is continuing ticket sales in upcoming phases, including a last-minute sales period starting in April, applying variable pricing based on demand and availability, though not using fully dynamic pricing.
Fan groups continue to criticize the high resale prices, arguing that they mostly benefit resellers rather than true supporters.
