The World Bank affirmed the continuation of supporting energy sector projects in Tunisia, developing its electricity transmission network, and helping it to overcome all the obstacles it faces, as well as promoting the renewable energy sector and mines.
This came during the meeting of the Tunisian Minister of Industry, Mines and Energy Naila Nouira Al-Kenji Tuesday with Jesco S. Henschel, Director of the Morocco and Malta Department of the World Bank Group, and Alexandre Arrobio, Director of the Bank's Office in Tunisia, in the presence of representatives of the Bank.
The bank representatives expressed their willingness to provide support and technical support to the Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company, with the aim of developing the national electricity transmission network and developing human capacities at the level of the Ministry and the Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company, in addition to completing the programmed projects in the shortest possible time and in the best conditions.
They also discussed the bank’s contribution to financing studies related to the electrical interconnection project between Tunisia and Italy, as the Tunisian government obtained financing from the World Bank in the amount of $12.5 million to implement part of the preliminary studies for this project, including studies of the sea and land path, studies of environmental and social impacts.
They also drew attention to the Bank's financing of the electrical interconnection line project between the north and south of the country (Kandar-Sakhira) with a capacity of 400 kilovolts and a cost of approximately $150 million.
On her part, the Tunisian Minister of Industry praised the efforts of the Bank Group in supporting development projects in the energy sector to overcome all the problems raised, calling on the Bank Group to support Tunisia's efforts to invest in electricity production projects from renewable energies.
