Hungarian budget airline Wizz Air has officially opened its new base at Zvartnots International Airport in Yerevan, marking a major expansion of its operations in Armenia.

The launch ceremony, held on October 1, was attended by senior officials, including Wizz Air CEO Roland Tischner, Armenia’s Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan, and representatives from Armenia International Airports.

As part of the new base, two Airbus A321neo aircraft will be permanently stationed in Yerevan.

The modern jets are expected to cut fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions by 20% compared to older models, while reducing noise levels by 50%.

With the opening, Wizz Air is introducing eight new European routes from Yerevan this month, connecting the Armenian capital with Prague, Hamburg, Naples, Paris Beauvais, Paphos, Bari, Bucharest, and Memmingen.

In total, the airline will now serve 16 destinations in nine countries from Zvartnots, strengthening Yerevan’s position as a regional hub for low-cost travel.
