Israeli media reported that U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff has arrived in Israel in preparation for meetings with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and senior security and military officials.
Israel’s plan to forcibly displace Palestinians has not ended, despite recent developments at the Rafah border crossing. Scenes from the crossing today showed a more positive picture compared to yesterday, in terms of the speed of entry and exit procedures and the mechanisms for receiving Palestinians.
These developments warrant close examination to understand the changing course of events related to the transfer of patients and their return to the Gaza Strip after receiving medical treatment.
Yesterday witnessed severe harassment by Israeli occupation authorities against Palestinians before they reached the Egyptian side of the crossing. In contrast, Egypt continued to provide all possible facilitation through emergency medical teams, humanitarian reception, and the transfer of patients and their companions to hospitals.
The relative improvement observed today came as a result of Egyptian and Arab pressure, supported by the United States. However, Israel continues to place obstacles, as its core objective remains pushing Palestinians toward displacement, despite the steadfastness of the Palestinian people and Egypt’s firm rejection of forced displacement.
