Wildfires persist in northern Greece as firefighters struggle to contain blazes in remote areas.
A wildfire that erupted in the Serres region has scorched forest lands in an isolated area, according to the Greek newspaper Kathimerini on Sunday.
Efforts to extinguish the fire involve 35 firefighters, five trucks, three ground teams, and a helicopter.
Another fire, which broke out on Friday in the same region, no longer has an active front, but 34 firefighters, two ground teams, and eight trucks, supported by two helicopters, are working to fully extinguish it.
While neither fire threatens residential areas, the rugged terrain poses a significant challenge to containment efforts.
Greek media reported last Thursday that the fire department successfully controlled a major blaze on the island of Crete.
