Widespread Concern over Kabul Airport Deadly Explosions

After the twin blasts at Kabul Airport on Thursday, third explosion was reported in Kabul, according to reports.

One of the previous two blasts was a suicide bombing at Kabul Airport and the second blast was at Baron Hotel which serves as a guest house for NATO forces.

World leaders expressed deep condolences and condemnation following the twin blasts that left dozens dead or wounded.

Italy 

Italy "strongly condemns" the bomb attacks at the airport in Afghanistan's capital Kabul, Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio wrote on Twitter.

"No Italian was harmed in the attacks in Kabul... I express my condolences to those who lost their lives and my solidarity with the wounded. Italy strongly condemns the attacks," Di Maio wrote, as the country continues to evacuate some Afghans by air.

Germany

German Chancellor Angela Merkel condemned the "heinous" attack at Kabul airport.

“We don’t know all the details yet, but the terrorists targeted people waiting at the airport gates who were hoping to leave,” Merkel said. “They wanted security and freedom, and that is why it is an absolutely heinous attack in a very, very tense situation.”

Moreover, a German hospital plane is on standby to fly to Kabul and help evacuate people that were injured in the attack at the airport, Defence Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer said.

“We have offered the medevac (medical evacuation aircraft) for the transport of wounded people,” she told journalists in Berlin.

UK

British Boris Johnson spoke in the wake of two explosions in the Afghan capital, followed by a gunfight.

Johnson condemned the "barbaric" attacks outside Kabul airport, asserting that UK's evacuation operations from Afghanistan will continue.

"We will continue our operation. And we are now coming towards the end, the very end," the Prime Minister affirmed after an inter-ministerial crisis meeting.

EU

European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen has condemned the "cowardly and inhuman attacks" at Kabul airport.

She tweeted that the "international community must work closely together to avoid a resurgence of terrorism in Afghanistan and beyond."

India 

India strongly condemned the deadly bomb explosions near the Kabul airport, noting that the attacks reinforced the need for the world to stand unitedly against terrorism.

"Today's attacks reinforce the need for the world to stand unitedly against terrorism and all those who provide sanctuaries to terrorists," the Ministry of External Affairs said.

France 

French President Emmanuel Macron, in remarks during a visit to Ireland on Thursday, said the previous few hours had been “very difficult” .

“In our thoughts are our teams on the ground, as well as the families and all those who are currently trying to protect their lives and leave the country, even as there have been several explosions outside the airport in the last few hours,” Macron added.

Washington

U.S. President Joe Biden was briefed on the explosions and conferred with his national security team and commanders on the ground in Kabul, according to the White House.

On the other hand, former U.S. President Donald Trump said Kabul "tragedy should never have been allowed to happen," according to a statement.

NATO

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg condemned the deadly blasts outside Hamid Karzai International Airport.

"My thoughts are with all those affected and their loved ones. Our priority remains to evacuate as many people to safety as quickly as possible," Stoltenberg wrote on Twitter.

UN

United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres condemned the terrorist attack at the Kabul airport.
