The World Health Organization official (WHO) said today (Monday) that experts from the United Nations organization do not believe that the spread of “monkeypox” outside Africa will lead to a pandemic.

The organization added that it is not yet clear whether infected people who do not show symptoms can transmit the disease.

During the current month of May, more than 300 suspected cases of monkeypox were recorded, which is usually a moderately severe disease that is transmitted by close contact and causes flu-like symptoms and a clear rash.

Most of the cases have appeared in Europe, not in the countries of Central and West Africa, where the virus is endemic. So far, no deaths from the disease have been announced.
