Egyptian actor-singer Mohamed Ramadan surprised Thursday his fans by uploading a video on social media claiming the government had seized his money in one of the largest banks in Egypt.

Ramadan detailed that he received a call from a bank employee informing him that the government had confiscated his money, without citing the reasons.

"My money and I belong to my country and my people," he captioned that post.

During the video, which was widely shared on social media, the actor boasted that he has as much money in his home as he has in the bank, likening himself to the locals, peasants, and Upper Egyptians, who keep as much money in their homes as they do in the bank.

Judicial sources stated that the freezing of Ramadan’s money was a routine procedure in legal cases where one party owes money to another.

Egyptian Suspended Pilot Ashraf Aboul-Yosr Dies of Health Crisis

The actor was court-ordered in April to pay EGP 6,000,000 ($382,400) in compensation to the late former air force pilot Ashraf Aboul-Yosr, who died passed away at the intensive care unit in one of the hospitals after suffering from critical health problems.

Banking sources affirmed that the reason for the seizure of the money is related to a judicial ruling in the case of the former pilot.

Aboul-Yosr filed a lawsuit against Ramadan after he posted a video in the pilot’s seat of a private plane in 2019, a stunt led the pilot to be handed a lifetime flying ban by aviation authorities.
