The World Health Organization (WHO)'s Director Tedros Adhanom said that the world sees dangerous period of pandemic due to the breakout of several mutated strains of the virus, media agencies reported on Saturday.

"Detected in at least 98 countries, the Delta variant is "dangerous" and is continuing to evolve and mutate. it requires constant evaluation and careful adjustment of the public health response,” the official described.

Moreover, the director listed two main strategies for competing against the virus which is worsening the pandemic situation in various countries: the first is applying medical measures such as social distancing, mask wearing, and quarantine, and the second is a fair distribution of vaccines, and equal share of medical devices and supplies such as liquid oxygen globally.

The official described: “I have urged leaders across the world to work together to ensure that by this time next year, 70% of all people in every country are vaccinated [against Covid-19]."

Delta is one of the most dangerous mutations of the COVID-19 and it is a form from the strain known as (B.1.1627.2). It was discovered for the first time in India in 2020.

The new strain is more infectious by 40%, in some cases, it could be more spreadable by 60%. Furthermore, it is more dangerous than the other variants. Therefore, the number of infections of the new variant is tragically increasing.

Regarding the effect of the vaccine against it, several studies confirmed that all vaccines are effective
