Dr. Tedros Adhanum Gebresos, Director-General of The World Health Organization (WHO), expressed hope that Corona (known also as COVID-19) may end this year after three years following declaring the disease as an international pandemic.
Gebresos added in a statement published by the organization on its website that the weekly deaths of Corona became lesser than the number revealed in March 2020.
He went on to say that he’s confident the world will declare throughout the current year that COVID-19 as a worrisome emergency may end as a pandemic in 2023.
Gebresos pointed out that lessons should be deduced from that pandemic to avoid the cycle of negligence that shaped the long-timed response of response to the pandemic.
It is worth noting that the Chinese authorities informed on the 31st of December 2019 of the outbreak of unknown pneumonia in Wuhan in the central section of the country.
Earlier in January 2020, China announced that the newly –detected virus caused the disease.
But, Gebresos announced on March 11, 2020, that the new disease has become a pandemic.
