The French News Agency (AFP ), quoted sources in the White House, Moscow, and Washington who are expecting to hold talks on the situation in Ukraine and arms control on January 10.

The French agency revealed that the talks would bring together Russia, the United States, and France.

The agency also quoted a spokesman for the US National Security Council as saying that representatives of Russia and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe are scheduled to hold a meeting on January 13.

On the other hand, the Secretary-General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, announced earlier that he had called for a session of the Russia- the  North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Council on January 12 next.

Russia had proposed earlier this month to the United States of America (USA) and NATO to sign two agreements to establish a system of security guarantees in order to ease military tensions in Europe.

The Russian proposals provide for intensifying coordination between the two parties with the aim of avoiding serious military accidents, and limiting the deployment of strategic weapons such as heavy bombers and medium and short-range missiles in specific areas, with NATO's pledge not to continue its expansion eastward, and not to grant Ukraine membership in it.

NATO announced that its Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg called for a session of the Russia-NATO Council on January 12 next.

The information office of the alliance told the Russian "Novosti" agency last Sunday: that NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg "has decided, in his capacity as Chairman of the Russia-NATO Council, to convene the council on January 12, 2022, and we are in contact with Moscow regarding this meeting."
